In Malmö, Sweden, the international theatre project “UNRECOGNIZED” has begun, a co-production bringing together Ornproduktion from Stockholm, Qendra Multimedia from Prishtina, and the Albanian Theatre in Skopje.
From Kosovo, the project features playwright Jeton Neziraj from Qendra Multimedia while from North Macedonia, actor Shkëlqim Islami from the Albanian Theatre in Skopje is part of the production. The project also involves several prominent international partners, including Royal District Theatre (Georgia), Kyiv Academic Theatre on Pechersk (Ukraine), as well as the Swedish theatres Dramaten – The Royal Dramatic Theatre, Malmö City Theatre, and Göteborgs Stadsteater.
“UNRECOGNIZED” addresses timely and sensitive issues, focusing on the complexity of often unrecognized and invisible minority groups, as well as the reality of unrecognized or occupied territories in Europe. Based on the shared experiences of its partner countries, the project aims to create an intercultural theatre production that deeply explores identity, displacement, and sovereignty.
Through collaboration between artists, researchers, and local communities, the project seeks to encourage dialogue and enhance understanding of issues with political sensitivity. The premiere is scheduled to take place at the Albanian Theatre in Skopje in early October.
This collaboration aims to foster a rich artistic and cultural exchange, strengthening the intercultural dimension of the production and promoting dialogue among communities and artists from different countries.
