The 4th edition of Kosovo Theatre Showcase will be carried out from 2nd to 7th November in Prishtina, Ferizaj and Gjilan.
For five consecutive days, this years’ Showcase gathers in Kosovo about 50 regional and international festival directors, critics, journalists and other theatre professional profiles who will have the opportunity to experience the newest Kosovo theatre productions, to present their works and to talk about matters related to theatre.
This year, Kosovo Theatre Showcase presents 10 local theatre productions and 4 others from the region and Europe – in a specific guest program entitled “The program of Visa free countries”. Every year, the Showcase aims to bring some of the most impressive and accomplished Kosovo theatre works.
“We are happy that also this year we can give wings to the innovative theatre production of our country. Every day we are seeing an increased interest from the public to go to the theatre but we are also seeing an increased interest from European theatre scenes to experience and cooperate with the Kosovo theatre scene, and in this sense, our Showcase is continuously growing”, says Jeton Neziraj, the Executive Director at Qendra Multimedia.
Except the familiarity with the plays that are produced in Kosovo - a country with one of the most vibrant scenes in the Balkans - the guests of Showcase will have the opportunity to interact with local artists during discussion panels and other complementary programs.
This year, the Kosovo Theatre Showcase hosts the premiere of the play Balkan Bordello directed by Blerta Neziraj that will be performed on Wednesday 3rd November at Oda Theatre. This play is coproduced by the La MaMa Theatre from New York, Qendra Multimedia from Prishtina, Atelje 212 from Belgrade and My Balkans from New York with a cast of American, Serbian and Albanian actors. In the production process of this play are involved artists from 7 different countries.
Among other plays, this year the Showcase returns the play John Cage’s Hamlet by the late Kosovan director Bekim Lumi. This play returns to the stage after a 6-year absence.
Kosovo Theatre Showcase is organized by Qendra Multimedia in cooperation with the Kosovo National Theatre, City Theatre in Gjilan, “Adriana” Theatre in Ferizaj and “Dodona” Theatre in Prishtina.
