“Under the Shade of a Tree I Sat and Wept”, directed by Blerta Neziraj and written by Jeton Neziraj, will be presented at the São Luiz Teatro Municipal in Lisbon, Portugal, from 23 to 25 October 2026. On Friday and Saturday, performances will begin at 8:00 PM, while on Sunday, 25 October, the performance will start at 5:30 PM.

The production explores the process of blood-feud reconciliation in Kosovo and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa, focusing on processes of social healing, reconciliation, and forgiveness.

Written and staged by two renowned theatre-makers from Kosovo, Jeton Neziraj and Blerta Neziraj, in collaboration with Greg Homann, Artistic Director of the Market Theatre, the production brings together a cast of actors from Kosovo, Albania, North Macedonia, and South Africa.

The production features acclaimed actors Adrian Morina, Ilire Vinca, and Amernis Nokshiqi, alongside an ensemble of artists from South Africa: Gontse Ntshegang, Kensiwe Tshabalala, Les Made, and Bongile Gorata Lecoge-Zulu.

This Qendra Multimedia production, in collaboration with The Market Theatre, has so far received numerous positive reviews from international critics. Germany’s Deutschlandfunk Kultur described it as “an important production,” praising its “excellent energy and humour,” as well as its interweaving of historical and artistic experiences between Kosovo and South Africa.

Following its presentation in South Africa in April 2026, the production continues its European tour throughout the second half of 2026, before travelling to New York in autumn 2027.
